night at the fair

yesterday was my day off so i headed to the fair (after i saw "inception" at the theater). This peterbilt truck is made completely from recycled parts. it won best of show. isn't it awesome?

wandering around the fair, i passed the sheriff's booth and saw this awesome Viper. My friend, karen told me that it was confiscated during a drug bust and they made it into an official sheriff's car. love it!

after eating a corn dog (isn't that why we go to the fair?), i head over to the frontier stage to watch and listen to Smashmouth!!!! they were a free show! As you can see, everyone is standing up. I don't remember which song they are singing here but i sure loved every minute of it!

I used the zoom to take this picture.

this is a self-portrait including my friend, Karen. She was my supervisor when i worked at the Paso Robles Library BC (before Cody). She was the one who got me to go to this concert by posing the question on Facebook "Anyone wanna go to see Smashmouth on Wednesday" last week! Thank you, Karen!

We went back for the second show with Karen's friend, Vicky and her two children. They sang a different set! I didn't know they did that! I thought it would be the same as the first.

tomatoes!

For all of you who know me, you know that I love home-grown tomatoes. Well, the other day I picked my first tomato. It looks ready, doesn't it? But I jumped the gun. it wasn't quite ripe yet. I ate it anyway.
Here's what I did with it and you can see in the stem area of the one slice that its still green . It really needed to be on the vine for a couple more days. It still tasted good! Can't wait for more.

Guess what we did? We went to Solvang for dinner yesterday. Earlier in the week, my nephew, Kevin called (several times!) and invited us for a bbq and fireworks. We headed down right after church yesterday (what a beautiful drive) and here's Kevin right after we drove in. Taya was in the bedroom trying to clean it up so they could give us a tour. What a nice house! 4 bedrooms and 2 baths with a very large yard.
After dinner (hamburgers, corn on the cob, potato salad and beans with strawberry shortcake for dessert), Taya's sister, Jade came with her family. This is Kevin and Jade's husband, Ryan(?) in their backyard blowing bubbles. We started for home before the fireworks started and found as we neared our home that Meridian Vineyards was doing their fireworks show. There were several cars parked on our turnoff, watching the show.
Thanks, Kevin for inviting us and for a lovely time.

right at home

One day, Pipi snuck into our house and made herself at home here on our bedroom chair. I think that was the day kyra's friend was visiting and they had a dog. She doesn't mind being in our house at all.
